Mediating Finances
How to divide up your assets and physically separate into two homes can be a large source of stress for separating couples. A mediator can help you and your ex-partner agree on how to split money, property, pensions and other assets without taking sides. The role of the mediator is to ensure that you are happy with the financial disclosure which has been provided, ensure that you are happy with any valuations which have been carried out and to help you discuss settlement options.
The Finance mediation process usually takes between two and four meetings depending upon the complexity of your financial situation. At the end of the process you will be given an Open Summary of Financial Information, and a Confidential Summary of Proposals.
Any agreements made during mediation are not legally binding in the sense of being enforceable in a court. Many people decide to get a solicitor to look over the agreement, and the agreement can be used in court at a later stage in order to create a Consent Order
